Albino Neon Tetra
Paracheirodon innesi (variasi albino)

Description
The Albino Neon Tetra is a stunning variant of the popular Neon Tetra. These fish are characterized by their bright, translucent white or pale pink body with a vibrant red stripe running along the body, similar to the Neon Tetra’s characteristic neon blue stripe, but in this case, the blue is replaced by a light, pearlescent white appearance. The red stripe along the body is typically very noticeable, especially in well-lit tanks. The Albino Neon Tetra has a slender, streamlined body, making it an attractive addition to community aquariums. Males are typically smaller and slightly more colorful than females. These fish are peaceful, small, and active, making them great for community tanks with other small, non-aggressive fish.
Habitat Origin
Native to the slow-moving, clear waters of the Amazon River Basin in South America. Although the albino variant is a selectively bred species, the wild Neon Tetra comes from areas with dense vegetation and soft, slightly acidic waters. They thrive in areas with stable water temperatures and gentle water flow.
Aquarium
Ideal Number in Aquarium: At least 6 individuals, as they are schooling fish and feel more secure in groups.
Favorite Food

Albino Neon Tetras are omnivores and will accept a variety of foods, including high-quality flake food, micro pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. They will also graze on small plant matter and algae in the aquarium. A varied diet ensures they maintain their health and vibrant coloration.
Behavior:
The Albino Neon Tetra is a peaceful, active, and social fish that thrives in schools. They are typically found swimming in the middle to upper regions of the tank. They are not aggressive and are ideal for community tanks, especially with other peaceful species. Albino Neon Tetras are generally shy and feel more comfortable in groups of at least 6, where they can swim together in coordination. They are not fin-nippers and can coexist with other small, peaceful fish without any issues.
Special Care:
Albino Neon Tetras are quite hardy but require stable water conditions to thrive. They prefer slightly acidic water, with temperatures within the recommended range, and should not be exposed to extreme fluctuations in water quality. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential for maintaining clean water. A well-planted tank with plenty of hiding spots will make them feel more secure. Since they are sensitive to bright lights, providing some shaded areas can help reduce stress.
Compatibility with Other Fish:
Yes, Albino Neon Tetras are compatible with many peaceful fish species such as other tetras, rasboras, small catfish, and peaceful shrimp. They should be kept with other small, non-aggressive species that occupy different parts of the tank. It is best to avoid housing them with large or aggressive fish that may intimidate them or view them as food. They do particularly well in a tank with other schooling species.
Breeding Setup
It is strongly recommended to use a separate breeding tank for Albino Neon Tetras to ensure better control of water parameters and protect the eggs and fry from being eaten. A 20-liter (5-gallon) aquarium is sufficient for a breeding pair. Maintain water parameters at a pH of 6.0–7.0, temperature of 24–28°C (75–82°F), and soft to moderately hard water (2–10 dGH). Use a gentle sponge filter to keep the water clean without creating strong currents. Include fine gravel or bare-bottom substrate, live plants like Java moss or Anubias, and floating plants to provide shade and egg-laying surfaces. Low to moderate lighting is ideal to replicate their naturally shaded habitats.
Conditioning for Breeding
To prepare Albino Neon Tetras for breeding, offer a protein-rich, varied diet including live foods (brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms), frozen foods, and high-quality flakes. A nutritious diet improves egg production and overall vitality. Perform weekly 25% water changes to maintain pristine water conditions, which helps reduce stress and encourages natural breeding behavior.
Spawning Process
Albino Neon Tetras are egg-scatterers and typically spawn in the early morning or evening when conditions are right. Males will chase and display to the females during courtship. A female can lay 100–200 adhesive eggs per session, attaching them to plants, glass, or other surfaces. Immediately after spawning, remove the adult fish from the tank, as they will eat the eggs if left unsupervised.
Fry Care
Eggs usually hatch within 24–36 hours. The fry will initially stay on surfaces and rely on their yolk sacs for nourishment. Once they become free-swimming, feed them infusoria, liquid fry food, or microscopic live foods like rotifers. After several days, introduce baby brine shrimp or finely crushed flakes. Keep the water temperature between 24–28°C and perform daily 10–15% water changes to maintain excellent water quality and prevent toxic buildup.
Important Notes
Albino Neon Tetras generally reach sexual maturity between 6 and 9 months. Males are smaller and more slender, with more intense coloration during courtship, while females are rounder and larger, especially when carrying eggs. Since they are sensitive to stress, avoid sudden changes in temperature or water quality, keep aggressive tankmates away, and maintain a calm, stable environment to support successful breeding and fry development.
